The Africa Leadership Group (ALG), in collaboration with the Nigeria Leadership Series (NLS), has announced the launch of a new youth-focused leadership initiative aimed at preparing young Nigerians for active participation in governance and public leadership.
The programme, known as the Youth Leadership and Governance Development Programme (YLGDP), is scheduled to officially commence in January 2026, with applications now open for its first cohort, YLGDP Cohort 1.
Focus on Governance, Leadership, and Civic Engagement
According to the organisers, the YLGDP is designed to equip Nigerian youths with practical knowledge in governance, leadership development, citizen rights, and civic responsibility. Participants will also be exposed to pathways for influencing decision-making processes at the local, state, and national levels.
The initiative targets young Nigerians who are interested in public service, leadership, advocacy, and nation-building, regardless of their professional background or state of residence.
Who Can Apply?
The programme is open to youths across all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory. Eligible applicants include:
Students
Employed and self-employed youths
NYSC members
Unemployed youths interested in leadership and governance
Applicants are required to provide basic personal information, including email address, full name, date of birth, gender, phone number (preferably WhatsApp), as well as state of origin and state of residence.
Education and Occupation Details Required
As part of the application process, interested candidates will also indicate their highest level of education, which may range from secondary school education to postgraduate qualifications. Applicants are equally expected to state their current occupation status.
The organisers note that the programme is inclusive and not restricted to a specific academic discipline or profession.
