27-09-2025 — Senator Rufai Sani Hanga Empowerment Programme provides youth in Kano Central with fish farming training, startup kits, and financial support to promote self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.
Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga, representing Kano Central Senatorial District, has officially launched the first batch of his Fish Farming Empowerment Programme, aimed at training and equipping youths with sustainable livelihood skills.
As part of the initiative, 200 beneficiaries received fish farming starter kits, including fingerlings and feed sufficient for three months, alongside ₦20,000 transport support. The empowerment package is designed to ensure that participants not only acquire practical knowledge but also have the resources to begin their own ventures.
Since assuming office, Senator Hanga has introduced a variety of empowerment schemes that combine training, equipment, and financial support. His programmes cover:
Training in fish farming, poultry, crop production, ICT, and vocational crafts.
Distribution of work tools such as sewing machines, motorcycles, bicycles, farming implements, and other vocational kits.
Provision of capital support for youths and women to establish or expand businesses.
Direct community interventions, including the provision of basic amenities to underserved areas.
This integrated model, according to the Senator, is aimed at reducing dependence on temporary handouts and building long-term self-reliance among constituents.
Reports indicate that many of the youths who completed previous training sessions are now engaged in profitable businesses. Some have established small enterprises, while others have become self-employed, contributing to the local economy.
Observers note that Senator Hanga’s approach has distinguished him from other legislators in Kano. Unlike routine political promises, his interventions are practical, visible, and community-driven.
Commenting on the initiative, community members praised the Senator for prioritizing real empowerment over political rhetoric.
According to Shafiu Tottee Gwagwarwa, a resident of Kano Central, “Among the three senators representing Kano, none has rolled out empowerment programmes as impactful as Senator Rufa’i Sani Hanga. His work speaks for itself, and people appreciate him not because of politics, but because of the results they can see.”
With the success of the fish farming initiative, Senator Hanga has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming representation into tangible community development.
