As Nigeria’s job market continues to tighten, young people are increasingly turning to alternative income streams. In response, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development has introduced NiYA Gigs, a national work platform designed to give youth immediate access to paid tasks without needing formal employment or advanced certifications.
Rather than functioning like a traditional empowerment scheme, NiYA Gigs operates as a youth-centered digital marketplace, enabling young Nigerians to earn money through short-term services and micro-jobs posted by individuals, SMEs, and government agencies. The platform mirrors global freelance ecosystems but is engineered specifically for Nigeria’s labour realities—where millions of skilled young people cannot secure standard employment despite having marketable abilities.
With NiYA Gigs, a young tailor can list alteration services, a photographer can take paid bookings, and a web designer can find clients without relying on word-of-mouth or physical networks. Income is determined by the value and complexity of each gig, placing control in the hands of the service provider. Payments are automated through the NiYA Wallet, creating a structured system that protects both the freelancer and the client.
This approach signals a shift toward a skills-first, portfolio-based economy, where youths are encouraged to build a reputation through verified work history and client reviews. The platform accommodates every skill level—informal, creative, digital, and technical—ensuring that even small household services can become stable income sources.
Eligibility is intentionally broad. Any Nigerian youth with at least one monetizable skill can sign up, create a professional profile, upload service offerings, and begin applying for available gigs immediately. The application process takes place entirely online.
Young people interested in joining the NiYA Gigs workforce can register through the official portal:
