The Federal Ministry of Youth Development (FMYD) has opened registrations for its Waste to Wealth training, a national initiative designed to equip Nigerian youths with practical skills in circular-economy businesses. The program aims to transform waste into profitable and eco-friendly ventures, linking youth empowerment with environmental sustainability.
The FMYD Waste to Wealth training covers multiple sectors of the circular economy. Participants can choose specialized hands-on programs in waste recycling, including plastics, paper, wood, metal, and glass; upscaling and upcycling for textiles and craft; renewable energy solutions such as solar, wind, biodegradable energy, solar stoves, and electric vehicles; ecopreneurship skills like capacity building, financial literacy, product trading, waste exportation, eco-literacy, and reuse/repair; and bio-mass initiatives including afforestation, reforestation, and electronic waste management.
To participate in the FMYD Waste to Wealth training, applicants must provide accurate personal information, including full name, email, phone number, date of birth, sex, state of origin and residence, LGA, permanent address, and nearest landmark. Required documents include a passport photograph and a NIN slip, each with a maximum size of 25KB. Participants must also select their preferred area of training from the listed sectors.
Eligibility is targeted at Nigerian youths, generally aged 18 to 35, who are willing to commit to training and actively engage in circular-economy ventures. The initiative is open nationwide, enabling young people from all states to access knowledge, start-up support, and integration into a national eco-entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Registrations are still ongoing and interested youths are urged to apply before the portal closes. Applications can be completed via the official portal at https://wastetowealth.fmyd.gov.ng, where applicants fill in their details, select a training area, upload the required documents, and await communication on training schedules, start-up support, and next steps.
