Governor Uba Sani Meets PENCOM, Announces N13.5bn Pension Clearance for Kaduna Retirees

Kaduna, December 20, 2025 – Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare, dignity, and security of pensioners and retirees, disclosing that over ₦13.5 billion of inherited pension obligations have been cleared. He made this announcement through a tweet shared on his verified Twitter handle (@ubasanius) following a courtesy visit to the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) headquarters in Abuja.

During the visit, Governor Sani met with the Director General of PENCOM, Ms. Omolola Bridget Oloworaran, and members of her management team. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to improve pension administration, ensure compliance with the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), and resolve longstanding challenges affecting retirees in Kaduna State.

Pension Clearance and Reforms

Governor Sani revealed that Kaduna State inherited pension obligations totaling over ₦24 billion, of which ₦13.5 billion has been settled.

He emphasized that pensioners, who have devoted their productive years to public service, deserve certainty, respect, and secure retirement, adding that pension reform and transparency are key priorities of his government.

PENCOM Commends Kaduna State

Ms. Oloworaran commended the Kaduna State Government for its infrastructure development, people-centred reforms, and proactive approach to resolving inherited pension liabilities. She assured the Governor of PENCOM’s continued support through policy guidance and technical collaboration, highlighting the importance of state and federal cooperation in strengthening pension administration.

Measures to Ease Pensioners’ Cost of Living

Governor Sani also highlighted initiatives aimed at reducing the impact of rising living costs on retirees. Chief among these is the free Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mass transit scheme, which has been declared free indefinitely for pensioners, helping to lower transportation costs and improve mobility.

Other welfare measures include ongoing infrastructure projects and programs to improve access to healthcare and social amenities for retirees, demonstrating the administration’s people-centred governance approach.
