JAMB Announces Compulsory Subject Combination for Law in UNILAG 2026

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reiterated the approved and compulsory JAMB subject combination for Law at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), ahead of the forthcoming admission cycle.

According to information aligned with the UNILAG Faculty of Law admission requirements, candidates seeking admission into the Department of Law, University of Lagos, must strictly comply with the subject combination prescribed by JAMB, as failure to do so automatically disqualifies applicants during screening and admission processing.

Compulsory JAMB Subject Combination for Law in UNILAG

For candidates choosing Law at UNILAG as their first choice institution, JAMB has confirmed that the following subjects are mandatory:

  • English Language (Compulsory for all courses)
  • Literature in English
  • Government or History
  • One other Arts or Social Science subject

This means that candidates must register English Language, Literature in English, Government/History, and one additional Arts or Social Science subject in UTME to be eligible for admission into Law at UNILAG.

Subjects Accepted as the Fourth UTME Subject

UNILAG allows candidates to choose any one of the following as the fourth subject:

  • Christian Religious Studies (CRS)
  • Islamic Religious Studies (IRS)
  • Economics
  • Civic Education
  • Geography

Candidates are advised to avoid pure science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, or Biology, as these are not accepted for Law admission at the University of Lagos.

UNILAG Law Admission Requirements (O’Level)

In addition to the correct JAMB subject combination, candidates must also meet UNILAG’s O’Level requirements. Applicants must obtain at least five (5) credit passes in not more than two sittings, including:

  • English Language
  • Literature in English
  • Mathematics
  • Government or History
  • One other Arts or Social Science subject

These credits must be obtained from WAEC, NECO, or GCE, as recognized by the university.

Why the Correct JAMB Subject Combination Matters

Admission experts warn that many candidates lose their chances yearly due to wrong subject combinations, even when they score high in UTME. UNILAG is particularly strict with its Law admission requirements, and candidates who fail to meet the exact subject combination are usually screened out automatically.

JAMB has repeatedly emphasized that no institution has the authority to waive subject combination requirements, making it compulsory for candidates to comply fully before registering for UTME.

Advisory to JAMB Candidates

Candidates intending to study Law at UNILAG are advised to:

  • Confirm their subject combination before final UTME submission
  • Choose UNILAG as first choice institution
  • Aim for a very competitive JAMB score, as Law remains one of the most competitive courses in the university
  • Prepare adequately for the UNILAG Post-UTME screening

As admission competition intensifies, JAMB and UNILAG urge candidates to rely only on official information and avoid misleading advice from unofficial sources. The correct JAMB subject combination for Law in UNILAG remains a key determinant of admission success.
