The University of Ibadan UI Cut Off Mark for 2025 & 2026 is officially out
The University of Ibadan (UI) has officially released the cut off marks for the 2025 & 2026 admission exercise. If you are an aspiring UI student, this is the moment you’ve been waiting for. The newly published University of Ibadan UI cut off mark determines whether or not you will secure admission into your desired course this year.
In our previous article, we shared full list of JAMB cut off mark for the institution. UI is Nigeria’s premier university, and competition for admission is extremely tough. That’s why understanding the UI cut off mark 2025 & 2026 is very important for every candidate.
Before we continue, let’s briefly know some basic terms about UI cut off mark.
What UI Cut Off Marks Mean
When the University of Ibadan UI cut off mark 2025 & 2026 was released, it came in three categories: Merit, Catchment, and ELDS. Let’s explain these terms clearly so you know where you stand.
Merit
This is the general cut off mark that applies to all candidates nationwide. If you meet the merit cut off, you are eligible for admission no matter your state of origin.
Catchment
UI, like other federal universities, gives preference to students from its designated catchment states. If you’re from these states, you may be admitted with a slightly lower score than the merit cut off.
The University of Ibadan (UI) catchment area states are those in the Southwest geopolitical zone of Nigeria, because UI is a federal university located in Oyo State.
They include:
1. Oyo
2. Ogun
3. Ondo
4. Osun
5. Ekiti
6. Lagos
If you are from any of these six states, you fall under UI’s catchment area. This means your cut-off mark for admission may be slightly lower than the merit cut-off.
However, being from a catchment area does not automatically guarantee admission. You must still meet the catchment cut-off mark for your chosen course.
For highly competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Pharmacy, even catchment scores are still very high.
If you are from Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, or Lagos, you have a catchment advantage at UI, but you still need to perform excellently to secure admission.
ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States)
To encourage inclusivity, candidates from educationally disadvantaged states in Nigeria get special consideration with lower cut off marks.
Candidates from Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS) like Zamfara, Gombe, Ebonyi, etc., may also enjoy special concessions under the ELDS quota.

Success Tips for UI Admission Candidates
Gaining admission into the University of Ibadan (UI) is highly competitive, especially for courses like Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, and Engineering where the cut off marks are very high. Below are practical tips to help candidates improve their chances:
1. Understand the UI Cut Off Mark System
Merit: The general cut-off mark for candidates nationwide with very high scores.
Catchment: Lower marks for candidates from states in UI’s designated catchment area.
ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States): Special consideration for candidates from states classified as ELDS by JAMB.
Knowing where you fall helps you set realistic expectations.
2. Score High in JAMB and Post-UTME
UI usually admits the best of the best. To stand out:
Aim for JAMB scores above 250 if you are targeting competitive courses.
Prepare seriously for the UI Post-UTME, as it carries heavy weight in the final admission score.
3. Prioritize Your Course Choice
Be strategic: if your score is not competitive for Medicine, Pharmacy, or Law, consider related but less competitive alternatives like Physiology, Nursing, or Microbiology.
Avoid random changes—choose a course that still aligns with your career goals.
4. Strengthen O’Level Results
UI places importance on your WAEC/NECO grades.
Strive for at least 5 credits in one sitting (including English, Mathematics, and relevant subjects).
5. Stay Updated on UI Admission News
Always visit CutOffMark.NG for authentic information. Beware of scammers promising “admission slots.”
6. Take Advantage of ELDS or Catchment Advantage
If you’re from a catchment state or an ELDS state, leverage this advantage when applying.
Even if your score is slightly lower, you might still gain admission.
7. Prepare Backup Options
If you don’t meet the cut off for your first-choice course, be open to changing course within UI.
Alternatively, consider Direct Entry after a diploma, IJMB, or JUPEB.
8. Be Patient and Persistent
Many UI aspirants don’t get in on their first try.
If it doesn’t work out:
Reapply next year with better preparation.
Or start in another university/polytechnic and transfer later.
The University of Ibadan UI cut off mark for 2025/2026 is now official. If your score meets or exceeds your course’s merit, catchment, or ELDS benchmark, you stand a strong chance of admission. But if you fall below the published figures, you may need to consider a change of course to less competitive programs like Agriculture, Education, or Forestry.
Remember: UI is the most competitive university in Nigeria. Aim higher than the cut off mark to be safe.
